Reported hotel cccupancy in Mexicali was 63% and 56% in San Felipe during this Labor Day weekend, said Carlos Guillen Armenta.

The State Secretary of Tourism in Mexicali said this weekend was good for hotel occupancy in the municipality, especially in urban areas.

He said the city closed on Friday with a 57.5% rate and on Saturday reached 70%, with an overall average for the city of 63%, exceeding the figures obtained in the same period of 2014.

In San Felipe on Friday closed with a 37% hotel occupancy while on Saturday there was a considerable increase, reaching 81%.

Throughout the weekend an average of 56% hotel occupancy was reported in San Felipe, he added.

However Guillen remarked that the subdelegate for the Department of Tourism in the port said tourist camps located south and north of San Felipe recorded 100% occupancy.

He added that this weekend a culinary event on the Malecon attracted a large number of domestic visitors, mainly from Tijuana.

He reiterated that 2015 was the best year in tourism for Baja California since 2007, hoping to end the year with the same impetus that has developed the Baja California into a tourist destination.

Statewide tourism

• The Tourism Ministry reported that statewide during this weekend the overall hotel occupancy was 70%, 7% more than reported in 2014.
