San Felipe, BC, Monday October 10, 2011
The Port of San Felipe will be subject to further
promotion by tourism in the last quarter of this year,
announced State Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan
as he presented a check for 250 thousand pesos to the
Marketing Committee of San Felipe.
Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan noted that the
latest contribution is part of more than a million dollars
delivered to the tourism sector of San Felipe in the
last year. The resources were provided to support events
like the Shrimp Festival, Carnival, Off-Road Race San
Felipe 250, conducting promotional tours from Tijuana,
Mexicali, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and for the realization
of a new off-road race called the "San Felipe Challenge
of Champions" which was held for the first time
last September.
It was also announced at that meeting that this financial
contribution from the State Government is presented
in accordance with the three axis of the Agreement by
the Tourism State, which was signed by the Governor
along with presidents of various chambers of commerce
and tourism promotion agencies, as well as legislators
and heads of various departments of the three branches
of government. This recent infusion of money will support
events and promotional tours during the months of October,
November and December so that San Felipe continues to
improve its hotel occupancy rate, which for the first
time in three years has increased by 5 percentage points.
Finally, the Governor pointed out that by hiring a Public
Relations Agency in California, there was minimal impact
realting to the tragedy of the sinking of the fishing
vessel "Erick" that occurred last July, noting
that even during the present year there has been a 17%
increase in sales of fishing permits.
Accompanying the State Executive at that meeting were
Juan Tintos Funcke, Tourism Secretary Alejandro Mungaray
Lagarda, Secretary of Economic Development, Carlos Flores
Vázquez, Secretary of Infrastructure and Urban
Development, Renato Sandoval Franco, Secretary of Labor
and Social Welfare and Pablo Alejo Lopez Núñez,
Secretary of State for Social Development.
