The National Olympic Games will be coming to San Felipe May 7-10, 2009. It is estimated two thousand spectators will be drawn to the rowing event which will help alleviate the economic pressures experienced by our local businesses on the heels of the current global financial difficulties.
San Felipe will be under a lens as national news covereage focuses on our local rowing team, which has placed well in recent Mexican Olympiads, so well that it was decided to hold the Rowing Event in San Felipe.
The rules for the event demand the two kilometer course be maintained at a constant two meters depth. To accomplish this, a track will be constructed 400 meters offshore between El Machorro and the El Cortez Motel at a cost of five million pesos. The track will be left intact after the event and will be made available for future sporting activities.
