Since June 30th, 19 people have died in Mexicali from heatstroke. Most of them were poor. Temperatures are expected to peak at 118 degrees today. Combined with the humidity from the Gulf, the effect has been deadly. The victims were all men and ranged in age between 26 and 80. All but one has been identified. This year's high temperatures have claimed more heat-related deaths than last year so far. Health officials have urged people to drink liquids, wear hats and light colored clothing. Cover up windows, avoid street foods and avoid outdoor physical activities. Mexicali's summer temperatures are the highest in Mexico and have been known to reach 120 in the summer months.
