The Grand Circo Royal is in San Felipe and offers an
entertaining evening for both young and old. Refeshments,
food and popcorn are available under the Big Top as
a troupe of young performers rotate through several
costume changes as they dance, balance, spring, soar,
whirl and generally deliver all the high energy acrobatics
and derring-do that patrons expect from a circus company.
The little ones are not ignored either and giggled
at the ends of their pointing fingers as clowns and
over-large cartoon characters danced and joked in center
ring. The very young were provided with a chaparoned
ride on a Shetland pony around the circle's perimeter.
High aerial acrobats had performers sailing over the
audience and up into the rigging near the top of the
big tent.
There was trouble with the sound system during a clown's
repartee with an announcer and was perhaps due to the
thunderous volume level of the previous recorded annoucements,
which seemed loud enough to blow out the speakers. But
the audio glitch was ironed out and the show was completed
without any further problems.
The circus is located on the west side of Ave. Chetumal,
a few blocks north of the China Inn Restaurant. Make
an evening of it and enjoy the talents of the Circo
Royal Palace. Shows are at 6:30 and 8:30 PM. Tickets
range from 60-80 pesos, depending on where you wish
to sit.
