The Flying Samaritans

San Felipe, Baja, Mexico

February 20th, 2007

I want to thank each and every one of you for a job well done this past weekend. All of you worked very hard, we saw a lot of patients, and I'm sure that the people of San Felipe appreciated your time and efforts very much.

There are still some kinks that need to be worked out of the triaging system, but it will certainly improve as we continue to work with the San Felipe Hospital, the San Felipe doctors, and of course the Lyon's Club of San Felipe. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of Gary Dilley (president of the Lyon's Club) and Carlos Kuttler (new owner of San Felipe Hospital).

I want to give a special thanks to Dr. Yates, Dr. Raible, Cindy Gabert, Rosie Bishop, and Bill Wims for all their dedication and hard work in the operating room last Saturday. Cindy and Rosie sent the last patient home that night at 11:30pm. I also want to thank Dr. Demshar and all who were working hard on Friday in the optometry clinic along with him. Also, our new student members from UC Berkeley and Merced did a fantastic job.

Thanks also go to Gardenia who sponsored a very nice dinner at El Dorado Ranch Friday night for all who participated in the clinic.

I can't name all of you personally who took part in this clinic, but want you to know that we appreciate everthing that each and everyone of you did to make this a very successful clinic.

Good job everyone! And thanks again.

......Walt Schimon

Central Valley Flying Samaritans’
Optometric and ENT Clinic
February 16-18, 2007

This is our itinerary for each day, some days are open with free time and other you may have an assignment. If at anytime you are not sure of your assignment please feel free to ask Rosie or myself Cindy what you will be doing. It is our goal to make this clinic successful and rewarding for everyone. There is never any question unreasonable to ask, if you are not comfortable with something please fill free to ask. Our goal is not only to give care to those who can not afford it but to make this clinic a very enjoyable one. Rosie and I (Cindy) have been down several times, for many years. No one will be working outside there scope of practice, but we can teach you basic medical treatment, such as blood pressure reading, pulse, and basic question to ask why they are here seeking medical treatment. NO question is unreasonable nor do we expect everyone to know how every thing. Please ask this is how we learn. Thank you for wanting to be a part of this special clinic.

Remember we may make changes according to the needs of this clinic, so please be flexible. No question is too unreasonable to ask.
