TIJUANA, BC.- After 24 hours without an engine and resigned to an uncertain fate, seven fishermen from the port of San Felipe were rescued by members of the Mexican Navy. The seven were adrift in a panga since April 14.

The sailors were able to send a call for help by cell phone that initiated the rescue by staff of the Navy. The panga was located 37 kilometers northeast of San Felipe, without propulsion since the outboard motor of the vessel "Alika" stopped working and left them adrift.

Due to the sudden change of weather conditions the situation was further complicated, becoming unfavorable when a cold front appeared and the sea begn to "chop", threatening to overturn the panga.

The Sector Naval dispatched an oceanic patrol craft to the place the fishermen reported during their cell call. After several hours of combing the area the Navy boat managed to locate them and they were taken aboard for medical attention, blankets and food. With their panga in tow, the fishermen were shipped back to San Feliope where they were reported to be in good health.
