San Felipe, Baja, Mexico

TIJUANA .- Thursday June 30, 2011 .

The State Tourism Secretariat (SECTURE), the Federal Consumer Protection (Profeco) and the Association of the Mexican Association of Travel Agents (AMAV) Northwest chapter, today unveiled a number of recommendations to for tourist services in order to avoid mishaps during the summer vacation season.

At a press conference the head of the Tourism Ministry, Juan Tintos Funcke, said that besides promoting tourism, planning and advancing investments in this area, Tourist Information and Assistance, whether national or foreign, has established a framework of collaboration with Profeco and Amavan to guide not only our visitors, but also those seeking the same Baja California tourism services inside or outside the state.

"These services are in many cases offered by Tour Operators and Travel Agencies that are part of our family of tourism and that is why we are working in partnership with them and with the support of the Profeco for Baja California. We wish to avoid non-compliance experiences or some types of fraud when purchasing travel services. These services packages have made Governor José Guadalupe Osuna Millán very aware that tourist services are commensurate with the quality imparted to them and a strict adherence to the regulations, " the state official said.

Meanwhile Martin Dominguez Rocha, CEO of the Profeco in Baja, said that before the school holidays, many Baja families scheduled travel both inside and outside the state, even outside the country. The federal agency will verify the services offered and will be attentive to users who require it, while also issuing recommendations.

Among the key recommendations include those related to airline services and land transportation, travel agencies, car rental agencies and those related to so-called "timeshare" housing. The federal official invoked a call to exercise caution in the use of credit cards and verify the conditions set by making use of promotions.

Representing the Northwest Amavan, Alejandra Lobato Samano, Vice President of Transportation, said it is important that users do not get carried away by offers of large discounts. Certified and established travel agencies have professional agents who properly advise travelers to select reliable information on hotel, airline and other services.

He added that said all agencies are ready for this partnership to serve travelers, "We have trained personnel to meet all the requirements of vacationers prior to departure and are made aware of problem that could arise and the best way to solve them in the best interest of the traveler" he said.
