"PROJECT PALAPA"
|
Here in San Felipe the hot summer weather is oppresive to dogs
and cats who not only struggle to find drinkable water,
but have to hide under cars or vans, in dark dank
basements or construction sites to get shelter from 100
degree+ heat and matching
humidity.
At the San Felipe Animal Rescue site in the
desert of Las Minitas our plan
is to erect a series of Mexican style
shade PALAPAS and replace older, wind
battered shade tarps that have been destroyed over
the winter.
You might
recall that in January of 2006, an arsonist
burned our clinic to the ground--the fire incinerated
everything in its path, turning all our supplies and
meds and the entire structure into ashes.
We've just
completed a $100,000 two story rebuild, but are
looking for additional help to accomplish "PROJECT
PALAPA". Estimates of $8500-$10,000 guarantee an
incredible result, and the completed project will
provide better quality of life to all our dogs who live
here.
San
Felipe is a poor fishing village where
everything that happens to improve quality of life for
its people and its animals is almost
always privately funded.
Please help us
get "PROJECT
PALAPA" started.

As you
can see by these photos
our
kennels and outside runs are
exposed
to the hot sun and high
humidity.
Extreme desert winds
blow
our shade tarps away as soon as we put them up. This project
will provide sturdy PALAPAS like this
one which are very secure and
far
cooler for the dogs.
